About the Archive
Find information about the archive, its scope and methodology.
The Archive is still very much a work in progress.
The eventual aim is to create a profile of every known building and commission associated with J. L. Pearson, including new buildings, work on existing buildings, survey and consultancy work, and unexecuted designs.
There is now a basic profile for each known commission giving essential information such as location, dates, type of work and current status. These initial entries should therefore not be taken as the finished profiles. Further information will be added when each profile is expanded, especially where a field is currently recorded as ‘Unknown’. This is, in some cases, where the information is genuinely lost to time; other entries are simply awaiting further research.
Over time, each profile will be developed to include, where appropriate, a detailed History, External and Internal Descriptions, architectural Analysis, References and a Gallery of photographs.
Two completed profiles give an idea of what the Archive will eventually contain:
St Nicholas, Porton — a relatively concise profile of a fairly simple church:

or Home page → Buildings Archive → Location Search → Porton
St Michael, Headingley — a much more extensive profile of a larger and more complex building:

The J. L. Pearson Archive will also include a growing series of thematic articles exploring particular aspects of Pearson’s architecture. These will be added to the About J.L. Pearson part of the site.
